What is WI-FI?The most basic purpose of Wi-Fi is for electronic devices to connect to each other without the use of wires...hence the name wireless. Wireless fidelity is a local area network which utilizes high frequency radio signals to send and receive data over small distances. Wi-Fi was created to be used for mobile computing devices, such as laptops, in local area networks, but now being used for a larger variety of purposes such as Internet access, hard core video gaming, and even home consumer electronics systems such as televisions and DVD players. There are even more developements underway that will allow Wi-Fi to be used by cars along highways that support an Intelligent Transportation System. A person with a Wi-Fi device, such as a laptop computer, a phone, or personal digital assistant (PDA) can connect to the Internet when in proximity of a WiFi access point. WiFi Hot SpotsThe region covered by one or several intersecting WiFi access points is called a hotspot.Hotspots can range from a single room in a house, to an area of a restaurant, cafe or airport, or even many square miles of overlapping hotspots. Wi-Fi can be used to create a Wireless mesh network. The WiFi Antenna helps to recieve the radio signals Basically, Wi-Fi also allows devices to connect directly with each without wires!
